PlayBook UX/UI Guidelines

So, I make this post from my newly acquired blackberry playbook. I am noticing, when browsing through apps on the appworld, that there doesn't seem to be any kind of UX/UI continuity between the different apps. So im confused. Do the developers for this platform really not care about having their apps match each other? I think that they should. So, I challenge the developer community to come up with a set of UX/UI guidelines for developing for playbook. Are you up to the challenge?

If anyone thinks this is a good idea, id love to compile these ideas into a community page for guidelines, that hopefully developers will take up and use in their apps.

Lets get these creative juices flowing!

Arduino Coding in TextMate

So, for our FIRST robotics team, we're using an Arduino to program part of our robot this year. I like this little thing. It's super versatile, small, and relatively powerful.

Only one problem though. The application that you have to use to code the Arduino doesn't let you resize the code, so viewing it is next to impossible on a smaller screen. I have configured Arduino.app to use TextMate as my external editor.

However, flip-flopping back and forth between applications to run the code on my Arduino is a pain. So what I'm asking is if anyone has gotten TextMate to successfully compile and run code on the Arduino. I have found this plugin for textmate, but as you can see the download link doesn't actually point to anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Forrst Android App

Hi Everyone, With all the talk on Forrst about building an iPhone app for Forrst, I haven't seen anyone post anything about a possible Android app for Forrst. So here's what I'm asking. Is there any interest from the Forrst community for there to be an Android app created for Forrst? If there were, I'd be willing to work with some people on developing the app and getting it on the Android market.

Paper or Plastic?

So here's my dilemma. As anyone who has been following me on here will know, I have been redesigning my business card over the last few days. I'm almost done with the design, and it's really coming together well. Now I run into this problem. What do I print them on?

I have two options. I can either go with standard business card stock or something similar, or I can print them on to a plastic material from Tekra. I like both materials, and the plastic is definitely more durable than the paper.

Here's my question. If you were to be handed a business card, which material would you prefer it be printed on?

I'm really looking for honest suggestions, so let me know what you think!

So what I've done here is redesign the contact info side of the business card to make it simpler. I think now it looks much less cluttered and a lot easier to read. Thoughts?

Here's the front of my business card redesign for this year. This goes along with my previous post of the back of the card. I'm going with a code theme for my card, if the curly braces around my contact info wasn't enough indication.

Right now I'm trying to pick between a back for this card. I can't decide between this one without color (http://forr.st/~5Ae) and this one with color (http://forr.st/~5q1)

I'd appreciate any input you guys have on firstly this contact side and which back would best match this one. I personally like the colored one, but I'm open to new suggestions!

Let me know what you think. Thanks in Advance!

This is the same business card design as before. Per user comments, I have greyed out the rest of the code and made only the code that has my name in it colored. What do you think?

Hey Forrsters,
I just put this together in Photoshop as a concept for a possible redesign of my business card. Currently my card isn't really all that fantastic, so I thought I should redesign it to make it reflect more what I do. Mostly, I'm a flex developer, and other flex developers will notice that the code on the card is in fact MXML.

So what I need from you are suggestions, questions, comments, and all forms of constructive criticism. Thanks in advance!

Page Backgrounds in Flash Catalyst

As previously posted before on here, I designed my latest personal site (ajobi.net/…) in Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5. The background is presently pretty bland and boring. I'd like it to be an image, so that the whole site looks more like a desk. I can do this for the flash application, however I want to be able to have it span the whole page, both the flash parts and the non flash parts. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I don't mind if I have to put the site into Flash Builder to add a bit of MXML or CSS to the site. If anyone has any ideas, please share them! Any help is welcome!

Storing Code Snippets

As a developer, I am constantly creating useful code snippets that I'd like to use again. However, I don't have a good medium to store them in. I've found snippets for mac, but I really don't want to spend the $40 for the app. Does anyone know of a free alternative to snippets? Or is it really the best, and should I spend the money on it?

All suggestions and opinions are welcome!
