Save the Pollinators Website

http://www.savethepollinators.org

I am proud to unveil the new landing/subscribe page for our upcoming music & poetry benefit project, **Save the Pollinators**.

Please stop by, listen to the sampler, view the wonderful imagery, and subscribe to our mailing list for notification of launch. Share the link w/anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks so much for checking it out.

**Design Notes:** Initially I wanted to make all of these cycling mini-slideshows using CSS3 keyframes. But I couldn't figure out the math to have each of them begin random, fade random, cycle randomly through the 20+ images, etc. So, I settled on using the jQuery Cycle plugin - it does, however take a larger toll on the CPU, but looks/functions great.

NSF Weekly Wire iPad App Screenshots

Following up from my post yesterday, I thought I would just showcase 3 screenshots from this app - the loading page, landing page, and a single article view page. Much easier then sending you to another site to view images. Here's what I wrote about this project from the other post:

My team and I recently developed a web app for the **National Science Foundation** for their internal communications tool called **NSF Weekly Wire**. Essentially, program/division directors can login and create content (articles, images, videos, events, etc.) that will be pushed out internally to the foundation once a week in an email newsletter.

These screenshots represent a concept I mocked up where the **NSF Weekly Wire** was an iPad 'news' type app. In this model, the user can more actively engage w/the content - as opposed to reading a static newsletter and every link they click takes them out of the branded experience. These are preliminary mockups, based on existing mobile UI patterns, etc. Nothing groundbreaking but fun to work on nonetheless.

Thanks for looking everyone, I hope you enjoy.

**Special thanks to Chris Wallace for his excellent iPad template.**

NSF Library Infographics Design

The National Science Foundation Library had an open-house event recently, the theme of which was 'Re-Introduce Yourself'. They had expanded their offerings, moved into the social media sphere, deepened their connections w/external libraries, etc. and wanted to remind the staff of their capabilities and services.

These are a series of infographics I made for the event based on a year's worth of stats I gleaned from their systems. They were designed as stickers which were placed on the side of small paper bags at a candy/snack table.

Thanks for looking!

NSF Print & Digitization Services Brochure

The National Science Foundation has a printshop which is responsible for a number of activities (printing, binding, flyers, posters, cd/dvd duplication, digitization, scanning...). I have been working on designing their new identity (NSF Print & Digitization Services), which I will share in a little bit, as well as a services brochure to be distributed to all the internal directorates.

This snap shows the inside of a 3 panel brochure I am working on. Currently playing w/space, iconography, type, etc. Thanks for looking!

Soundcloud Artwork Music Player Concept

http://www.benjamindauer.net/

I use Soundcloud as my audio distribution service and leverage their widget players to embed audio on my websites (notably their 'artwork' style player). You can view an example at the link above.

This is just a redesign concept of the artwork player based heavily on various UI concepts I've been inspired by around the web. You guys are all über-talented so I am not claiming originality here, more like a fun Frakenstein-ian exploration. Anyway, thanks for looking.

Burning of Wine - Album Artwork

http://distancerecordings.com/dist018

This is the front cover artwork for my ambient album, **"Burning of Wine"**. Playing around with colors/textures to convey a sense of the title. For the audiophiles out there, I was fortunate to have the music mastered by James Plotkin (Sunn 0))), Earth, Nadja and Fennesz).

Thanks for looking/listening!

the ART of SCIENCE identity + Monkey Portraits

I am fortunate to be working for the **National Science Foundation (NSF)** where I get to work on some very unique, and inspiring, projects.

Recently I designed the identity for "the ART of SCIENCE" project, a cross-directorate committee whose purpose is to bring to the NSF original works of art that visually explore the connections between artistic and scientific expression. This mockup shows the new identity being used on some promo pieces that showcase the incredible photography of **Jill Greenberg** for her show "Monkey Portraits".

The University of North Carolina

This is a snap of the homepage for **The University of North Carolina**. I led the first comprehensive redesign of the General Administration (GA) website. GA is the governing body for the entire UNC campus system (17 institutions across the state) and includes the President, Board of Governors, etc.

Here's what it looked like **before**: http://bit.ly/f8yqdT

National Science Foundation Idea Bank

The **National Science Foundation** just got a new Director. In an effort to more actively engage the staff he established an Idea Bank for employees to share and vote on ideas most important to them.

Being a government agency, their Intranet could use a little more excitement. So, going with his theme I mocked up this login page for the effort. I wanted people to gain a sense of excitement and ownership when they visited the page for the first time. His portrait is a link that takes you to a video of him discussing this project - it is a page that looks like this w/a large video player embedded.

Thanks for checking it out!

(note: text blurred because this is an internal web app)
