A Case of You

I create desktop wallpapers for fun. They typically revolve around music, and often times a specific lyric. This time I went with the great Joni Mitchell.

My appreciation for this song circled around again, since Jame Blake did a fantastic cover on last years Enough Thunder EP.

She

A few years ago I started doing design exercises that revolve around music. This was one of the first exercises I did. Saul Williams writes beautifully, and this passage comes from his book She, as well as the song 1987 from Saul's debut album Amethyst Rock Star.

I haven't created one of these in a while, and plan to get back to doing them. The fullsize versions of these were made to fit 1680x1050 monitor resolutions.

Holocene

This is a simple personal piece inspired by Bon Iver's magnificent Holocene from his sophomore release Bon Iver, Bon Iver. The lyric chosen bounced around in my head one day, so I rolled with it.

Website Redesign - joetower.com

I decided to redesign my personal website and move it from Wordpress to Drupal. Going extremely minimal was a very intentional decision. Every 6 months or so I find myself wanting to redesign my site. This is either a very good thing or just plain obsessive behavior (I do love each incarnation). Going minimal allows me to add subtleties down the road over full-on redesign. At least that's my reasoning right now.

Some technical notes:

I will be making updates frequently over the next few months, and definitely need to tackle some IE issues (7 & 8). Also, there are some validation errors that I think are being caused by my base theme "Framework" -which I'll need to fix as well. Being that my site is always a work-in-progress I was fine launching with the above issues.

I will also be making a mobile theme (somewhat responsive) as soon as I explore options. This is a departure from my previous fully responsive Wordpress theme - but I no longer feel the fully fluid responsive route is the wisest decision. I don't want to hide a bunch of crap - I want to load only what needs to. Theme switching based on resolution is far more flexible and seemingly, more purposeful.

Overall I'm very happy with what I've accomplished so far.

Feedback very welcome. Thank you kindly.

Tailor App Icon

This is the first iteration of an icon for an <strike>iPhone/iPad</strike> OS X Desktop app. Tailor allows you to easily tail your error logs. This application is currently being developed by Jake Bell. I can't elaborate on what the app will do, simply because I'm not that much of a programmer - I've never tailed an error log. I'm sure folks who tail error logs or need to track file logs in some capacity could see benefit in such an app.
As for the icon design, I tend to gravitate toward simplistic and minimal icons. While brainstorming, I thought of a shirt pocket that has a "t" formed by the flap and pocket center - I ran with that. I like where this design is going, though I don't think it's quite there yet.
