Good (Paid or Free) Font Recommendation to the Likes of Lobster

Hey guys,

My background lies with development; I have no formal design schooling. One of the reasons I like Forrst is due to the good mix of both design and more technical questions being asked and insight shared. I come to you guys today with a design oriented question.

Another great example of a feel and look for a font is these guys' logo saying 'eGarage': egarage.com/. Also see logo for Carrtel: carrtel.com/.

If you look through my snaps, you will see my bootstrap making heavy use of Lobster. I absolutely love that web typeface, but a lot of the feedback is focused on how overused and played out that font is.

I ask you: can you guys please point me in the right direction? I simply need a nice looking cursive\display font light enough to use on the web. I don't mind paying for good fonts'

Toggling Optional Form Fields

Hey guys,

Back with yet another installment of my progress and looking for constructive feedback.

The problem: provide users with the ability to refine a 30000+ spec sheet collection to browse makes and models, but also to let people discover new makes and models within given parameters. (Obviously, also letting them set parameters within a make and model constraint)

The right hand side is the default view and the link below the compact form expands to provide more flexibility. Upon hitting 'Find' the users is sent to page with the collection of spec sheets that match the given criteria.

Thanks

Car Specification Reference Homepage

Hey guys,

This section of the website will allow users to input Make, Model and Year of a vehicle desired and they will be brought to a results page which will show all matching cars.

I think the page looks great so far. I am using a generic Roadster on the right hand side of the page to convey the purpose of the website to visitors' intuition.

The challenge ahead is to let users [optionally] specify additional parameters. For example, a user should be able to browse all BMWs with weight less than XXXX lbs. Or, perhaps the user wants to see all Mazdas with HP above XXX.

Should I keep this page simpel (as it stands now) and instead ask users this info on the results page, to further refine the cars? This does eliminate some flexibility; however, as by that point the car collection will already be filtered down to at least the Make.

Car Fanatic Project Login Screen

What do you guys think? Does this work for you intuitively?

There is ample information offered to people looking for it, yet the input form is contrasted with everything since its a part of the conversion funnel, making it easier for peopel to block out the copy _noise_ and focus on the task at hand.

Forrst Specialization Tags Input Field (when editing your profile)

Hey guys,

I was filling out my Forrst profile a few weeks ago (love it here!) and I had an excellent idea, but need help finding the exact implementation script.

First some background: I am currently designing and preparing to deploy the next generation of an automotive eCommerce store. A fundamental challenge of our industry is making search relevant. One such way to do it is with exactly how Forrst does the specialty tags when one goes to edit their profile.

The vision: when the user focuses on the site-wide search field a popup suggests that the user enter some info about their car. As the user types the YEAR, MAKE or MODEL (in any order), an autocomplete field comes up suggesting all vehicles matching the pattern. Once the user selects it, it appears inside the actual search field much like a tag would on Forrst. The user can continue entering freeform search terms and hit 'submit'.

The tag will be used to scope the search to that specific vehicle and make results 100% relevant. This will obviously make the whole concept very intuitive and obvious to non-technical users.

By the way, take a look at my earlier post to see the homepage snaps of the said project.

What do you guys think? Whats the scripts name? I tried looking in source, but it looks like the production JS file is obfuscated\minified. Help :D

Multi-Domain Automotive eCommerce Homepage

Hello all,

Currently working on the new (and the only, really) iteration of our user interface for my company internally. What you see is a homepage layout executed in two flavors for two distinct car markets with the 'tabbed' interface at the top, to go back and forth.

The 'logos' are being designed separately and are substituted with the placeholder 'FCP' in these screenshots. I am not looking for critique on those. Also ignore the large saturated type next to the placeholders, this room is also reserved for the said horizontally-focused logo, but for now simply conveys the intended car market \ user audience.

I will also soon have internal pages, specifically the product listing and the product detail pages. However, with Forrst's post structure, I am not sure how to post up a multi-page layout.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: For explicit clarity's sake: these two layouts will be launched in tandem to serve two different car markets, two different shopping audiences, but they are able to share the cart and the checkout process, so the layouts are 1:1 usability-wise.

ALSO: The credit for a lot of the design work and process on this goes to my Creative Director, Jessica Bauer. I provide insight for revisions and guide her in a defined usability-oriented direction. The photography is mine.
