How to Use Netflix with NordVPN?

Netflix is perhaps the best content streaming platform out there. In our eyes, it’s the best —  period! It has a fantastic collection of movies & shows — exclusive or otherwise.

Some of its content is self-produced (Netflix Original, as kids like to call it these days), but the majority of content is licensed. And the thing about licensing is, the content owner can give exclusive rights to one platform in one country and another platform in some other country. For example, ‘The Office’ is available on Netflix (US), but in India, the rights are with Amazon Prime.

This means some of the content you might desire to watch (without paying for some other platform’s subscription) is available on Netflix. It’s just that you can’t access it due to geo-restrictions.

Once you bypass those restrictions, you can easily watch it on Netflix. That’s where a VPN comes in.

What is a VPN?

A VPN (or a Virtual Private Network) is a service that allows you to surf the internet privately, by creating an encrypted tunnel to send and receive the data.

Without VPN, all your internet activities are visible to your ISP, the government, and many third-parties. Therefore, one of the primary reason people purchase a VPN is for privacy & security purposes. A good VPN ensures it by using private DNS servers(s), private servers located across the globe, and keeping zero-logs of your activities.

Another reason why VPNs are widely-preferred these days is to bypass the geo-blocks set by government or streaming/content platforms such as Netflix. This part is what we are going to discuss today.

How will a VPN bypass the geo-blocks?

To understand this, you need to know how geo-blocks work. In geo-blocking, the user’s location is identified — mostly using the device’s IP address. If that location is allowed the access, it lets you in; otherwise, you are, well, blocked!

What a VPN does is, it changes your IP address. We briefly mentioned about several servers across the globe, didn’t we? Now, when connected to one of the servers, your IP address to the internet is the server’s IP address. If that server happens to be in the area where there’s no geo-block, BOOM —  you can access the content/site you wanted.

In other words, a VPN can bypass geo-blocks. And like us, Netflix also knows this, obviously.

Therefore, they try and update everything they can to keep people away from bypassing the defined geo-blocks. They do succeed in blacklisting many VPNs’ servers. However, some VPNs have time and again proved to be working & going around Netflix’s geo-blocks.

NordVPN is one of them and at the top of our favorite VPNs list.

How to use Netflix with NordVPN?

This goes without saying, but sign up with NordVPN (affiliate link) if you haven’t already. Then, log in on the device of your choice. It has apps/plugins for all devices, including Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Firestick, and more.

  • Once logged in, select a server located in the place where Netflix is streaming your wanted show/movie. NordVPN has more than 5300 servers across 59 countries.
  • Connect to that server.
  • Now, open Netflix.
  • Search for the title.
  • And stream!

That’s it. That’s how you use Netflix with NordVPN.

Wrap up

One of the many uses of a VPN is bypassing digital censorship. Meaning, you can access content restricted by your location/IP address. In this article, we discussed how you can use Netflix using NordVPN- perhaps the best VPN out there. We hope you found it useful.
