Company Information
2GB Hosting is a Jaipur, India-based web hosting company. It was founded by a “young group of tech entrepreneurs,” who we can’t seem to find on the internet. During the research, the only names we found were David Runyon, the founder of 2GB Hosting (which seems like a fake persona), and Naveen Sharma, the founder of HRNTIPL (a company that used to own 2GB Hosting, as per web archives).
It was founded way back in 1997, making it the oldest hosting company we’ve ever researched about. However, the proverb “old is gold” doesn’t apply here or with almost any technological item.
Sure, 2GB Hosting has been upgraded with time, but is it enough to compete with the best of the bests? Let’s find out!
4 good things about 2GB Hosting
To survive the oversaturated hosting market, a company needs to be good in some aspects, if not all. 2GB Hosting has the following elements in their favor:
1. Affordable pricing
Low cost is perhaps 2GB Hosting’s primary USP (Unique selling point). It’s priced even lower than our favorite cheap hosting, Hostinger.
The base shared hosting plan, 202GB Hosting, costs a mere 495 rupees/year. That’s just a bit above 40 rupees per month. Moreover, you only need to pay yearly to avail the price, which is excellent for absolute beginners with almost zero budget. With most hosting providers, you need to pre-pay for 2-4 years to get the services at introductory pricing — not with 2GB!
The mentioned price is excluding GST (goods & service tax), though. So add 18% to whatever number’s mentioned on their website.
2. Good server response time in India
If your primary visitors are from India, you’d appreciate 2GB Hosting for its server response time.
Server response time is the total time it takes for a web browser to get a response from the server. If the server response time is >200 ms, visitors will start noticing latency and probably leave even before the site opens.
We tested 2GB Hosting’s server response time using Bitcatcha, and these were the numbers:
Free migration: If you already own a website and want to transfer it to 2GB Hosting, they’ll assist you with the process.Overall: | ~280 ms |
India: | ~100 ms |
US: | ~260 ms |
In India, the server response time was outstanding. However, we won’t recommend it if you have a global audience and use the India data center.
3. Quantity server resources
Considering the price, the server resources you get with 2GB Hosting are exceptional. It’s even more than what comes with many 5x-10x costing web hosts.
2GB Hosting claims to give 202 GB disk space and 1 GB RAM on their base shared plan. Moreover, there’s no cap on the bandwidth your site can utilize. And you can create up to 50000 files on the server.
All of these look extraordinary on the surface. However, our test site’s performance was mediocre, so all these are what we would say vanity metrics.
4. A couple of freebies
Who doesn’t like add-ons?! Especially with web hosting as affordable as 2GB, extra features are unexpected.
2GB Hosting packs in two of the most needed features for any website owner:
3 things 2GB Hosting can improve
2GB Hosting looks amazing on the surface, as you can see from the above four points. But the “under the hood” part — the one that actually matters — is mediocre.
1. Maybe good customer support, maybe not
Customer support is one of the essential aspects to look at when selecting a hosting company due to obvious reasons.
You can contact 2GB Hosting’s customer service via live chat, phone call, or emails. We tried their live chat support and found the responses quick and the support agent to be professional.
However, during research, we found many reviews that criticized their customer support for not replying even after days of contact or not resolving issues faster. Here’s one screenshot:
In short, 2GB’s customer service is unreliable.
2. Frequent outages
For your website to do what it’s meant to do (provide information, sell products, attract leads, etc.), it needs to be live. Uptime is a metric that shows how much time a website was available.
Ideally, you want your site to be live 24/7/365, i.e., 100% uptime. But anything above 99.95% is acceptable in practice. Our uptime test on 2GB hosting showed 99.87% uptime, which is below average. Moreover, we have seen many of their customers complain about frequent outages — one guy had his server down for 4 days!!
So, if your website’s availability is crucial to what you do, we’d suggest to stay away from 2GB Hosting and go with Hostinger instead.
3. Mixed customer reviews
Checking other customers’ experiences with the hosting company is a part of our routine. When we did the same with 2GB Hosting, we found some customers seem to like them; some don’t.
We usually look at TrustPilot reviews, but it’s a 5 on 5 there, and most reviews look like paid reviews/spam reviews. Therefore, we checked their Facebook page.
Here’s a perfect screenshot that sums up how recommendable is 2GB Hosting situation:
In a nutshell, you can’t say which customer of the two you will be. So, to be on the safe side, choose one of these.

If you are looking for reseller hosting, we would recommend you A2 Hosting. As for 2GB packs, each plan allows unlimited domains, unlimited bandwidth usage, and unlimited emails. The only difference is in the storage you need to divide and resell.
R1 (Rs. 2000/year) | 10 GB storage, 5 cPanel |
R2 (Rs. 3000/year) | 20 GB storage, 5 cPanel |
R3 (Rs. 4900/year) | 40 GB storage, 5 cPanel |
R4 (Rs. 9000/year) | 100 GB storage, 5 cPanel |
4. WordPress Hosting
For WordPress-optimized servers, 2GB has two plans. You can host one domain on both plans. Plus, both packs include unlimited disk space. So the choice depends on the RAM you want.
SL1 (Rs. 1250/year) | 2 GB RAM |
SL2 (Rs. 2450/year) | 3 GB RAM |
2GB Hosting Control Panel
Sooner or later, one gets used to the dashboard and control panel the hosting provider gives, so it’s not that big a deal. However, if you are used to cPanel- the most popular control panel, 2GB has it for you.
From the panel, you can manage/add/edit/check domains, subdomains, addon domains, email accounts, email redirects, email forwarders, phpMyAdmin, files, folder, SSL, etc. Moreover, you can one-click install scripts like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, PrestaShop, etc., using Softaculous.
In short, log in to cPanel and rule your website.
Conclusion - Do we recommend 2GB Hosting?
Not exactly.
2GB Hosting, though not horrible, isn’t that good. It’s an average web host in a competitive industry where there’s no slot at the top for the average. Miss the mark by a little bit, and there’s no room.
2GB gets it right with the affordable pricing, add-ons, and server resources, but it loses out on a couple of necessary aspects like customer support & uptime.
Overall, it’s decent. But why go for the decent when you can get the best?!
If affordable pricing attracts you towards 2GB Hosting, we have a better alternative for you: Hostinger! It’s THE hosting for beginners and small businesses.
