By now, we know what happens when a primarily domain name registrar hops onto the web hosting business. If you read our Bigrock, Namecheap, and GoDaddy web hosting reviews, you know that too — all of them give sub-par services compared to hosting-first companies like Hostinger.

Is Crazy Domains the same? Is there any truth to their claim of being Australia’s fastest web hosting platform? If yes, does it translate to India? That’s what we’ll find out and share in this comprehensive Crazy Domains review.

We put Crazy Domains’ web hosting plan under loading speed, server response time, and uptime test to dig deep. Moreover, we also looked into their features and customer support.

So, how’s it? Let’s have a look.

Company Information

From humble beginnings to employing 100s of IT professionals worldwide, Crazy Domains has come a long way since its beginnings in 2000. Today, it gives domain registration, web hosting, email hosting, and many more services to millions of users across Australia, India, Europe, and the Middle East.

The name Crazy Domains is meant to imply something like you’ll get crazy deals at crazy good prices. In reality, there are many better and cheaper providers than Crazy Domain. For instance, Namecheap for domains, and as you’ll see throughout this review, Hostinger and others for hosting.

2 things good about Crazy Domains

1. Multiple data centers

One of the best things about a global web hosting service is the numerous data center locations. Why? Well, the nearer the data center/server to the target audience, the better the data delivery time or server response time (SRT).

Crazy Domains has data centers in Australia, Europe, India, New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom, the Middle East, and Asia. So, if you choose an India-based server, your users/customers will have the best SRT.

In our tests,

  • SRT from Bangalore: ~120 ms.
  • Avg. SRT from the US: ~ 260 ms.
  • Global average: ~ 225 ms.

SRT in India is under the recommended 200 ms mark; similarly, the global average isn’t far off either.

2. Good performance; well, initially...

Apart from the SRT test, our performance tests include checking uptime and loading time.

In web hosting terms, Uptime is the (% of) time during which your site was available/live. Ideally, an Uptime of 100% is the best, but it’s a bright green signal from us if it’s over 99.95%. Crazy Domains offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and in our test, it did remain upwards of 99.9% (99.93%), which is pretty good.

As for loading time, it’s the total time taken to load a full web page. We use a simple WordPress page for this test and recommend having a loading time of under 1 second. Crazy Domains hosted page loaded in about 700 ms when we first tested. It’s fantastic, but…

4 things bad about Crazy Domains

1. Declined performance

...when we last checked, the loading time was nearly 900-950 ms. It’s still under the recommended limit, but who is to say if the old users are thrown on overcrowded servers over time! It’s not something new in the market, so we’d definitely consider this element, especially when a provider is pushing ten years’ pre-pay package!

2. A money-grabbing powerhouse!

In our opinion, Crazy Domains is concerned about making instant money than anything else. We read through multiple customer review across the web, chatted with their customer support regarding some doubts, went through their ToS, and found:

  • The standard backups that come with their web hosting plan don’t include free restoration.
  • The 60-day money-back is awesome, but you’ll be likely refunded in sitewide credits. Meaning, you’ll have to spend that money on their site!
  • Website transfer — which is generally free — is charged for by Crazy Domains.
  • They ask for a premium even if you want to change the TXT record for your domain.
  • Even a basic SSL certificate costs money.
  • Plus, there are many upsell here and there. Initially, these features are free, but your card is charged when the free period is over.

And, of course, the biggest promotion is 10-year plans!

3. Technical support - friendly, yes; fast, sometimes; competent, no!

Any hosting provider’s customer support is as important as anything. Most web hosting users are non-techie people who just want to show their business/talent/knowledge to the internet without worrying about anything technical. And a part of what they pay to web hosts is for that.

Crazy Domains offer live chat, phone call, and email support option for such people. We tried their live chat and phone support for this review. The live chat representative connected almost instantly many times, but other times we had to wait to read something like ‘our members are busy with other requests, we’ll email you ASAP’. When we got to talk to the support member, they were friendly but mostly less knowledgeable; they had to pass the query to other technicians and seniors, which took way longer.

4. Way better hosts available

Knowing what you read till now, you most probably do not want to opt for Crazy Domains. However, if you think you’ll get only such web hosts because your budget is low, well, you can’t be more wrong!

There are many better hosts available for the price. You can get Hostinger’s Premium plan for the price, in fact. It performs miles better and offers unlimited website hosting, a free domain, & Google Ads credits, among other things.

Hosting Plans and Features

Crazy Domains sells shared hosting, VPS, and WordPress hosting plans. Generally, we share the plan’s least price, which is usually applied on a 3-4 years pre-paid package. However, Crazy Domains’ lowest price applies on 10-year plans; to keep the comparison fair, we’ll mention the 3-year price.

1. Web hosting

Shared plans are available on Linux servers and Windows servers. Similarly, there’s WordPress hosting meant specifically for WP users.

Conclusion | Do we recommend Crazy Domains?

No way!

Crazy Domains, as a web hosting provider, is crazy bad. The only decent thing about it is its initial recommendable performance. Other than that, its technical support is substandard, performance goes downhill over time, and while that’s happening, they are trying to charge you more.

Even if it was good at all those things, Hostinger’s Premium web hosting plan is better. You get features like free domain, free SSL certificate, and more, on top of top-notch performance and quality support.

To conclude this review, we’ll need just two words: Purchase Hostinger!
