Two facts:
- 1Our cheap web hosting list is essentially our shared hosting list; just the most affordable ones of the lot are mentioned.
- 2Our list of the top web hosting in India is also essentially our list of top shared hosting; just some providers like Kinsta don’t sell shared servers & hence their shared plans are not the center of the discussion. Also, that’s an exhaustive list covering all of the top names.
How is this list different, then? For starters, price isn’t the primary factor here — if a shared plan is worth the money, we consider it. Plus, this list is super-compact; meaning, you can read through it in a few minutes, unlike our more detailed articles.
The 5 Best shared hosting providers in India:
1. Hostinger

Overall Uptime
99.99%
Average server response time:
~180 ms
Average server response time(in India):
~212 ms
Price
starts at ₹59/mo
What we love:
The #1 cheap hosting & the #1 web hosting overall, Hostinger is unsurprisingly the best shared hosting in our evaluation. It’s not the best quality host of the lot; however, on the value-for-money scale, Hostinger is better than others (even on this highly-filtered list) by quite some margin. In short, unless your site gets high real-time traffic, Hostinger is a perfect choice.
Its cheapest plan comes with 30 GB SSD storage, free email account, free SSL certificate, weekly backups, and more. The cost? A mere Rs. 59/month. It also offers two other shared plans, Premium at Rs. 119/month and Business at Rs. 229/month. Besides, you can also purchase optimized-for-WordPress shared plans, starting from Rs. 99/month.
2. Bluehost

Overall Uptime
99.98%
Average server speed
210 ms
Average server speed(in India)
220 ms
Price
starts at INR 199/month
What we love:
If you plan to start your website using WordPress (the #1 CMS), Bluehost is an option you can’t ignore. Recommended by WordPress itself, Bluehost’s shared hosting plans are among the most popular ones out there. You get practically unlimited storage, unmetered bandwidth, free domain name, free SSL certificate, etc., with all its plan.
Bluehost offers four shared packages:
- Basic, costing Rs. 199/month, is excellent for beginner bloggers & small businesses.
- Plus & Choice Plus, starting from Rs. 299/month, can handle multiple small websites or a medium-traffic website easily.
- Pro, costing Rs. 859/month, is for pros working on high-traffic sites.
3. SiteGround

Overall Uptime
99.99%
Average server speed
~125 ms
Average server speed(in India)
~60
Price
starts at $6.99/month
What we love:
If you have a decent budget, Siteground’s reliable shared hosting plans are worth a look. Just like Bluehost, Siteground hosting is also recommended by WordPress. However, the numbers (10 GB storage, ~10,000 monthly visits limit, etc.) don’t look as good as Bluehost’s or even Hostinger’s. Still, Siteground shines with its extraordinary performance, almost ideal uptime, great security, numerous value-added features, and perhaps the best WordPress support team.
Siteground sells three shared hosting packages: StartUp ($6.99/mo.), GrowBig ($9.99/mo.), and GoGeek ($14.99/mo.). The names say it all, but if you want to know which one’s ideal for you, StartUp is for sites with~10k monthly visitors, GrowBig’s for ~25k visitors, and GoGeek handles ~100k monthly visits.
4. A2 Hosting

Overall Uptime
99.93%
Average server speed
~180 ms
Average server speed(in India)
~205 ms
Price
starts at Rs. 220/month
What we love:
Though primarily known for its reseller plans, A2 Hosting is amongst the fastest shared hosting providers in the business. Given its high-performance SSDs, CDN, caching solution, and more, your site will most definitely be blazing fast. However, its frequent downtimes may upset you. Other than that, you get great features at a budget-friendly price.
How budget-friendly? Well, the cheapest plan, Startup, costs $2.99/month. Then there’s Drive priced at $4.99/month, Turbo Boost at $9.99/month, and Turbo Max at $14.99/month. The Turbo Boost & Max are A2’s turbo-level plans, which are supposedly 20x faster because of low-density servers.
5. Hostgator

Overall Uptime
99.98%
Average server speed
~210ms
Average server speed(in India)
~212 ms
Price
starts at Rs. 149/mo
What we love:
HostGator’s shared plans are not the most impressive, to be honest. However, thanks to its above-average performance and features like SSD storage, plenty of bandwidth, free SSL certificate, free G Suite, etc., it managed to enter our top recommended list.
As for its shared plans, you can get Starter at Rs. 149/month, Hatchling at Rs. 249/month, Baby at Rs. 299/month, and Business at Rs. 399/month. Again, the name says it all — the cheapest one is for low-traffic starter sites, and the most expensive one is for set businesses.
What is Shared Hosting?
Wikipedia describes it as a web hosting service where many websites reside on one web server connected to the Internet.
In other words, multiple sites are hosted on the same server, and all sites share the server resources (RAM, CPU, storage, etc.). The number of sites & the kind of server depends on the hosting provider/plan.
Generally speaking, the cheaper the plan, the more the number of sites on a server. And if the hosting provider doesn’t properly manage the resources in terms of who gets what, one’s win will naturally be another’s loss. E.g., If one site on the shared server gets very high real-time traffic, most of the CPU & RAM will be dedicated to that site if proper barriers/ceilings aren’t in place.
How to choose the best shared hosting?
“Best shared hosting” is subjective. These are the factors you should consider to find your best shared hosting:
- 1Budget: If you have a fixed budget in mind, that’s the first filter to put. Say you can spend a maximum of 150 rupees/month; the expensive names like Siteground will be automatically eliminated.
- 2Requirements: Budget is super-important, yes. However, if the need be, you should be flexible with it. E.g., if you are running an e-commerce store, a cheap web host will do more harm than good.
- 3Performance: Once you know what you need and what you should ideally spend, check the suited shared hosting plans’ performance stats. Look for server response time, loading speed, and uptime, in particular.
- 4Technical support: A quick, knowledgeable, and friendly support team is a must. You don’t want to be hung out in dry when assistance is needed.
- 5Value-added features: If the provider offers features like free SSL, free emails, free CDN, etc., that’s awesome.
- 6Overall reputation: Read reviews like ours or other customers’ from platforms like TrustPilot to know what you’re getting into.
Who is shared hosting for?
If you are someone who’s starting out or has a low to a medium-traffic website, shared hosting is the ideal choice for you. It gets the job done and is usually cheaper than all other types of hosting.
